About Me

I was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area of Central Florida. I have always loved the outdoors - plants, animals, sunshine, the rain, the beach, the woods - all of it - except for the bugs.

I started gardening when I was a young adult. I was mainly growing roses and a butterfly garden in those early days. I later started my first vegetable garden in 2011, and have been learning through trial and error (and Google and YouTube of course) ever since. I didn't think vegetable gardening would be very difficult (I was wrong), and I just jumped right into it that first spring - without doing much research on Florida gardening. I started my seeds in early March that year, and only later realized that even though it's normal to start seeds that time of year in other states, it is not the best time to start most vegetables from seed in Florida. I had a few successes with that first garden, but I had many more failures. I think I probably did just about everything wrong, but I learned from those mistakes. I also found out that growing the vegetables is only half of the battle - protecting the healthy plants from insects and disease are also a never-ending battle.

I created this blog to help other gardeners - especially those who are new to vegetable gardening in Florida. Hopefully, other aspiring gardeners can learn from my mistakes, and perhaps I will learn some new things too. After 6 years of vegetable gardening, there is still plenty to learn, and more mistakes to be made, I'm sure. Feel free to leave relevant comments, questions, tips or experiences of your own on my posts. I hope you enjoy the blog. Happy Gardening!
